---Warmer Weather Contest---

<img:stuff/11046_WarmerWeatherContestLogo.jpg>

---This image may be used in your ET houses---

---created and run by [Paul Doyle]---

This contest is closed.

Does cold, wintry weather get you down? Do you look forward to hot, sunny weather, and the pleasure of sleeping at night with all the windows open, serenaded by the crickets and frogs? Do cute creatures like polar bears and seals and penguins make you sad, because where they live it's too darn cold? Ar you an adult who really dreads commuting to work through an ice storm? If you can answer any of these questions, then maybe this contest is for you.

In this contest, people will enter their art, which can be anything related to warm weather. There will hopefully be two categories, one for all ages, and (possibly) one for adults only, and only viewable by adults (reasonable exceptions may be permitted). This might be subdivided further should interest warrant. There will possibly be a poetry category, too, but that will depend on interest.

Sample Art

Two art samples, not at all meant to be entries for this contest. A few months back, I had serious winter blues---which can happen at any age. My son Patrick politely but effectively asked me to make him his own anthro-dragon character, seeing that Mommy and Daddy already had theirs. This is when I came up with the basic picture idea. I wanted to give it a slightly dramatic twist, and that is why there is a waterspout coursing harmlessly across open water. If you have ever gone to the Caribbean during the summer months, you will see waterspouts frequently, just offshore. Fortunately few of them become land tornadoes. For more information on that, please refer to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterspout

(Improved scans! Please do NOT use these on your houses. Use the one with the logo, instead.)

---THE RULES---

(subject to change)

<img:http://elftown.eu/stuff/2237_wiki_help_9y7vcgcflr5.jpg>

(1.)KEEP IT CLEAN, ON THE GENERAL-AUDIENCE PAGE. Knock yourself out on the adult page, but there will be some rather strict rules there,so if you're an adult with a dirty mind brace yourself.

(2.)ONLY ENTER YOUR ORIGINAL ART. I strongly encourage contestants make stuff specifically for this contest. Of course, this is up to the contestant. A better feeling of accomplishment will likely come from doing stuff specifically for this wiki.

(3.)PLEASE, NO LINED PAPER. Anything else within good taste is permissible as long as you can scan it, upload it and link it here. Anything it else it takes (within reason) to come up with your stuff is highly encouraged. Ideally, it's best to use "real" art supplies, but a lot of people can't afford them, and this contest is meant to be fun and full of life and variety.

(4.a.)ABSOLUTELY NO STOLEN ART. Or anything which falls under Uploading Art Rules. This will embarrass you in the end, more than anything else. Cheating is not cool.

(4.b)PLEASE, NO RANDOM INTERNET IMAGES. This also falls under Uploading Art rules. Images of your favorite cartoon/anime characters playing volleyball on a sunny day may look great---but unless they are fan art, they are not done by you. Show us what you can do---that's the stuff we'd like to see.

(5.)PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL. So you're 21 years old, and you can draw amazingly better than that thirteen-year-old kid who's getting all the cute comments for his beginner-level rendition of a family of emo orcs on vacation in Bermuda. . . which happens to be the same exact subject you're doing. Well, guess what? That's life for you. If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all. Maybe if you say something nice to that little kid, you might just get happiness in return. Also, don't you dare "bully" other contestants, or try to tell them the rules when you demonstrate your own fundamental misunderstanding of them! I personally have a little bit of fun putting these bullies in their place, and heck with it, so should you! More serious, this contest will NOT be disrupted by pointless drama. This contest is about as simple and straightforward as they come, so if you still don't understand (and English is your first language!) I suggest you either get back to bed because your body is crying for sleep, put on a good pot of coffee if you're just getting up from bed---or, if these still don't help, go to Elfpack or Myspace and start your own contest for intellectually-challenged folks.

(6.) This contest is supposed to be fun and creative and amusing. Participate, no matter your skill level. Relax, enjoy, and feel good you made constructive use of your time.

7.)*****PLEASE DO NOT SPAM FOR VOTES! If you do, you will be either (1.) Warned, then kicked out if it happens again; or (2.) If this happens after the contest has been closed, votes for contest will be disregarded. You will not be permitted to enter contests run by [Paul Doyle] after that.*****

(8.)You can have a maximum of TWO entries per category. So what does this mean? It means that if you are 18 and older, are diversely talented in clean artwork, clean photography and clean poetry . . . and are equally talented in naughty artwork, naughty photography and naughty artwork, you can have twelve entries! :0

2007-03-15 [Paul Doyle]: Bumping up contest deadline to 15 June 2007. 31 May 2007 is my tenth wedding anniversary with Kathy, and I highly doubt I'll be available on the first of June #^_~#

2007-03-15 [Paul Doyle]: Nice start, [Remos Page]! Where's the photo from? :)

2007-03-15 [sequeena_rae]: Just to make it clear, is it solely art or can Photography be entered too? *hopeful*

2007-03-15 [Paul Doyle]: Go ahead with photography . . . I will have to subdivide, but I'll worry about that later as I am off to bed :3

2007-03-15 [sequeena_rae]: Woohoo! :D

2007-03-15 [Paul Doyle]: Anyone watching this page---don't forget to vote in that little poll at the bottom of the page . . . ^_^

2007-03-16 [Paul Doyle]: Officially opening a photography section. I think holding a poll for that is a moot point, as we have so many wonderful photographers on this website :)

2007-03-16 [sequeena_rae]: Woohoo, I'll be sure to whore this link about :P

2007-03-16 [Remos Page]: no i painted it a beach near my place

2007-03-16 [Remos Page]: oh if i can put photos ,in i will then

2007-03-16 [Paul Doyle]: It's a Photoshopped photo you took, unless I'm mistaken? In any event---whether it's a photo or not---it is fine for this contest :)

2007-03-17 [Remos Page]: yes i did use photo shop i did paint it ok hope others enter to

2007-03-17 [Paul Doyle]: Since it is photography-based, I hope you'll be happy with it under the "photography" category. Now if you have something you made from scratch, whether using traditional media or various digital programs, you may put it under the art category. I hope this clarifies things. :)

2007-03-17 [Paul Doyle]: Added subheadings under "Art Submissions" and "Photography Submissions" clarifying things to reduce the inevitable "grey areas" bound to turn up here and there.

2007-03-24 [Paul Doyle]: [Future Dictator], thanks for the nice entry :)

2007-03-25 [Remos Page]: if you are going to put it in photo then i put a better one in lol

2007-03-25 [Paul Doyle]: That's a beautiful sunrise you put in there :)

2007-03-28 [Paul Doyle]: Whoo-hoo! This contest is featured on both Mainstreet (mc) and Art Contests! Thanks, [shotokan_gal] and [kittykittykitty]! :)

2007-03-30 [shotokan_gal]: No prob ;) Might try to enter if I think of something, liking the theme!

2007-03-30 [Remos Page]: thanks paul and i see a new photo!!

2007-03-31 [Paul Doyle]: I'd like to keep this contest happy and open-ended. Opening subwikis (for each category) should not be an obstacle, but a goal :)

2007-03-31 [Paul Doyle]: [Elmiira], I am a complete dummy at photography techniques. If I want to snap a photo similar to yours, what sort of lens and filters ought I look into considering? Nice photo, by the way :)

2007-03-31 [Elmiira]: actually.. I have just a normal (though good) digital camera.. meaning no lenses or filters.. It's just that there was a pretty sunset, and I placed her directly in front of the sun.. It makes that effect on the camera, though it was way lighter there. And then I darkened the colours a little, though only slightly. it's almost the same really, I just wanted to get away the grayness that digital cameras often make..

2007-04-01 [MisLuck]: I guess I can't get that center disappear :S Sorry for odd looking presentation.

2007-04-01 [Elmiira]: sorry, my bad.. I fixed it. :) forgot to put </*center> after my text..

2007-04-01 [MisLuck]: ah :D
Okay. Thanks ^^

2007-04-03 [Paul Doyle]: [MisLuck], thanks for the entry! It's hard to imagine doing dancing like that during a sleet storm o_O. And don't worry about pseudo-HTML glitches. We've got a long way to go before this contest is done, so hang tight :3

2007-04-03 [MisLuck]: Thanks! =) Can I entry with another artwork? I would like to do something excatly to this competition though it's snowing hard here still. :D What are the entry limits?

2007-04-03 [Paul Doyle]: Quick rules update: You can have a maximum of two entries per category. So what does this mean? It means that if you are 18 and older, are diversely talented in clean artwork, clean photography and clean poetry . . . and are equally talented in naughty artwork, naughty photography and naughty artwork, you can have twelve entries! :0 It's almost a foregone conclusion there's going to be an adults-only page, only visible to verifiable adults (which means if you're part of SPADNAA or "Blue Banana Central" you'll be a shoo-in. So bearing all this in mind, I will advertise this contest's poll one more time in my diary (public and friends-only entries) to legitimize the poetry and adult categories. If anyone wishes to make their objections/suggestions known, please do so now (within the next three days). This contest is growing and expanding, and has to move along if there is no controversy.

2007-04-03 [Paul Doyle]: (I'll kill the "h2" text and edit the update in a few days, don't worry.)

2007-04-03 [Paul Doyle]: (I hope what I wrote answered your questions, [MisLuck].)

2007-04-03 [MisLuck]: Thanks, i didn't saw the entry limit in the rules so had to ask to be sure. =)

2007-04-05 [Paul Doyle]: I'll update this after I get back from work, get the subwikis open, and kill that "h2" font on Rule #8 o__O

2007-04-06 [Elmiira]: :) hey, btw.. You explained how to verify your age.. but uhmm.. I have no idea what those things are.. :S

2007-04-06 [Paul Doyle]: Perhaps I should rephrase that. Of course, there's no proof-positive technique, but if you're rather well-known on this website, and are here for the artsiness, chances are very good I'll take you for your word. As far as camwhores and emos who belong anywhere but ET go? Forget about it.

2007-04-06 [Elmiira]: too bad.. :S I'm not on any page like that.. except for this one finnish art-page and it crushed down this spring.. :D too bad. :D should I scan my driving license to you? :D:D:D well, anyway, I'm not sure I would have been able to join anyway

2007-04-06 [Paul Doyle]: I'm brainstorming special rules from the forthcoming forum-protected adult wiki. Sample rules: absolutely NOTHING with minors, "cub yiff" or 'artistic loli" be damned, no "fake babe" stuff, and so on. I will have a gateway for anyone interested in joining the adults-only page. If you're on SPADNAA or "Blue Banana Central" (or both), you've got a free pass. If you are an emo camwhore with zero artistic incliniation, don't even bother. If you're one of those people with nothing on your ET house, forget it. I reserve the right to pick and choose, but at the same time will be as fair as possible. If I personally dislike you, but you're obviously an adult who is artistically inclined, you'll have little problem being admitted.

2007-04-06 [Paul Doyle]: [Elmiira], I take you for your word you are an adult, based on what I have seen in your presentation.

2007-04-06 [Elmiira]: :) thanks.

2007-04-07 [Future Dictator]: whats SPADNAA?

2007-04-07 [iippo]: SPADNAA.

2007-04-07 [Paul Doyle]: Please give me after the Easter weekend to change this wiki around---all subwikis will have their own places, and there will be a gateway to the new, restricted "adult" page for those who are not already on SPADNAA or "Blue Banana Central", and would like to be added to the forum-protected page. I won't have a brand-new sample image ready, though I might use this rather safe-for-work yet sensual image in its place (it's not my ancient R-rated "mating dragons" graphite image, by the way) : <img50*0:http://elftown.lysator.liu.se/stuff/11046_UnderwaterChaseColored.jpg> . I could quickly bang out sample poems, for both general-audience and adults-only versions. Anyway, please be patient. Sometimes I overload myself with stuff, but I find ways of getting it done, in time. But not too much time! ;-)

2007-04-11 [Paul Doyle]:

2433) Would you be interested in an adults-only version, and/or a poetry version of this page? (The adults-only page(s) will be on a forum-protected wiki-page that is only open to verifiable adults. There will be one or two exceptions, depending on the person and circumstance. You can vote more than once on this poll. (Administrator: [Paul Doyle])

Number of voters: 26

2007-04-11 [Paul Doyle]: Those were the final poll results . . . time to move along with this contest, now that the vast majority of people want the poetry and naughty adult-oriented page. I'm working on this stuff right now.

2007-04-19 [Paul Doyle]: UPDATE: Warmer Weather Contest Adult Page Gateway is complete, barring possible minor edits. The actual forum-protected adult page is up, but under construction. In order to see the adult page, you must join a secret forum whose link will not be publically available. Go to Warmer Weather Contest Adult Page Gateway for more info. There are a lot of specific rules, and I fully expect everyone who does join the forum, to abide by them. Also, I am about to start working on the regular, "all-ages" poetry page. Warmer Weather Contest Poetry Entries should not be anywhere near as complicated to develop.

2007-04-23 [Paul Doyle]: Apologies for continued delays opening the poetry and (real) adult page . . . real life priorities, including a wedding, have intervened. Currently working on a sample poem for the poetry page.

2007-04-23 [Paul Doyle]: Warmer Weather Contest Poetry Entries is finally open! Have fun and enjoy! Procrastinated about sample poem, finally knocked it out in about half an hour.

2007-05-03 [Paul Doyle]: Removed some embarrassing lines left over from the Elf12 version of this contest :P

2007-05-24 [Byne]: Whooo! This will be the first contest I've ever entered on ET! One problem however..I noticed that all of the images were scaled down and when clicked, link to a new webpage with a larger version.... I would like to inquire as to how one goes about doing that?

2007-05-24 [Cia_mar]: well when you put in the html that is used here on ET, after the tag img you put 100, 200, 300, or 400...ect... when you hit the edit button look at how other people have posted their images, if you still need help just ask

2007-05-24 [Paul Doyle]: For example: (the image at the very top of the page)

http://elftown.lysator.liu.se/stuff/11046_WarmerWeatherContestLogo.jpg

Now add an IMG tag. (Parantheses are added just to show what the complete IMG tag looks like.) For this example I'll use IMG:200.

<"img200:http://elftown.lysator.liu.se/stuff/11046_WarmerWeatherContestLogo.jpg">

Remove the parentheses (" ")from the IMG tag to get:

<img200*0:http://elftown.lysator.liu.se/stuff/11046_WarmerWeatherContestLogo.jpg>

And there you have it.

2007-05-24 [Cia_mar]: thanks paul, i am never very good at explaining all that by typing ... much easier to say it or show it in person...lol

2007-05-24 [Paul Doyle]: New deadline . . . 15 August 2007

2007-05-24 [Cia_mar]: thanks for the deadline change, you're a saint!

2007-05-24 [Paul Doyle]: You're quite welcome, [Cia_mar] :)

2007-05-24 [Cia_mar]: <img:stuff/dand-gif.gif>

2007-05-24 [Paul Doyle]: New deadline . . . 15 August 2007

2007-05-24 [Paul Doyle]: Ooops :P

2007-05-24 [Cia_mar]: hee hee...

2007-05-24 [Byne]: Thanks!

2007-06-13 [Blakkduv]: Is there a badge for this contest?

2007-06-15 [Paul Doyle]: It's in the works, with about a zillion other things. I blame real-life complications for the delay. :P

2007-10-10 [Paul Doyle]: And more delays. First time on ET in a few months, and I apologize. Big time real life delays, not to mention Intrnet burnout. Please bear with me, folks. I have hot a lot on my plate, of late. The most distracting stuff is resolved, so that's a light at the ned of the tunnel for this contest, right there. Again, I very much appreciate your patience.

2007-10-10 [Cia_mar]: no prob... we all understand how real life can intrude lol

2007-10-11 [Paul Doyle]: Fixed some typos "had" and "ned" :P

2007-11-19 [Paul Doyle]: Shut down the poetry contest, due to no entries at all. This contest must end. Winners in photography/art will get art/writing requests from me, within reason. Details to follow in 18-24 hours.

2007-11-19 [Paul Doyle]: This contest will end Wednesday night.
